BMW ECU Tuning

bmw-ecu-tuning

All of our maps are completely custom and created in our own workshop, this means we can tailor each map to your vehicle and personal requirements. We do not do 'generic remaps' or run a 'flash and forget' service as we want to spend an appropriate amount of time ensuring the tune is as good as it can be. This obviously comes at a slightly higher price than some companies but as with anything, you get what you pay for! We have a very simple pricing structure for our tuning services, these are outlined further down the page.

As we specialise in only BMW, VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda Diesel models, unlike other tuners, we have an in depth knowledge of the software AND hardware modifications required to get the most out of your vehicle. This also means we can be certain all your hardware is functioning correctly before starting to tune, something often overlooked by generic tuners.

We regularly have customers travelling from all around England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales as well as other European counties for our tuning expertise. An additional advantage for the customer is that we carry virtually all replacement parts in stock that may be needed, from general service parts to full turbo kits. Every car we do responds differently to various adjustments made when tuning, this is why each car will read slightly different power even if they have the same engine and specifications. The differences in power can vary dependant on the engines health and condition of the turbo etc. Our live tuning emulator allows us to make changes to the ECU's firmware in real time, meaning we can create the best possible tune without taking the car beyond its safe limits.

HARDCUT LIMITER

A hard cut limiter is exactly that, we reprogram the cars ECU to cut the fuelling at a set RPM making the revs bounce off the limiter effectively like a Petrol Engine. See our video of a car with our hard cut limiter programmed into the ECU Software. The sound of the hardcut can vary depending on the Engine, Turbo and Exhaust.

IMITATION PARTS

Due to the increasing number of individuals copying parts manufactured by Darkside Developments, customers who purchase imitation parts from other suppliers will be refused any assistance in fitting, software or technical help. This means we WILL NOT tune any vehicles with parts sold by these suppliers.

If you are considering purchasing parts from these copycats, please consider that we will not be able to work on your vehicle. *All manifolds will now be sent out with the Darkside Tag to prove authenticity. If you are interested in our tuning services or unsure which tune you require, please CONTACT US.

BMW ECU Types

DDE stands for Digital Diesel Electronics, and these are used on BMW's Diesel engines.

DDE 1

The first series of Diesel engines used the DDE1 control unit, and was found in the M21 powered E30 324d and td, and the E28 524d and 524td. It also found its way into a few rare Lincoln Continentals.

DDE 2, DDE 2.1 and DDE 2.2

DDE2 is used on M41 and M51 engines. DDE2.1 uses an updated Air Mass Meter with an Internal Air Temperature Sensor, whilst DDE2 has a separate sensor in the manifold.

DDE2.2 is an Updated version of the previous DDE2.1, and was introduced in 1995 and used on the M51TU engines.

DDE 3

DDE3 is the BMW name for the ECUs used on the M47 range on Diesel engines, also known as the Bosch EDC15, specifically the EDC15M. These are 4 Cylinder diesels, used in the E46 320d, and uses VP44 Injection.

DDE 4 and DDE 4.1

DDE4 is seen in the M57 range of 6 Cylinder engines, from 2.5 to 3.0l displacement, and the DDE4.1 was used in a twin Master / Slave arrangement in the M67 V8 diesels, with each ECU controlling one bank of the engine.  The Bosch designation for the DDE4 is EDC15C4. DDE4 is a Common Rail system, using the EDC15 range of Bosch ECUs. Common Rail systems use a high pressure fuel rail with diesel injectors, as opposed to the mechanical injection systems, or the PD (Pumpe Düse) system where each injector also acts as a high pressure pump.

DDE 5, DDE 6, DDE 6.2 and DDE 6.3

DDE5 is another update to the M57 and M67 diesel engine control range. DDE5 is a second generation Common rail system with Rail pressures increasing from 1350BAR in DDE4 to 1600BAR, and is also known as Bosch EDC16, and complies with the European EU3 emissions standard.

DDE 6, DDE 6.2 and DDE 6.3

DDE6 is used on M57 and M67 engines from 2005, using the same 1600BAR Common Rail System, and now meeting the European EU4 emissions standard.  These ECUs were also from the ECD16 Family, with the EDC16C1 / EDC16C31 / EDC16C35 (Solenoid Injection) and EDC16CP35 (Piezo Injection) versions.

DDE 7

The DDE7 ECU Family are based on the Bosch EDC17 architecture, with Solenoid Injection ECUs such as the EDC17C06, EDC17C41, EDC17C50 and EDC17C56 and Piezo ECUs such as EDC17CP02, EDC17CP09, EDC17CP09, EDC17CP45 and EDC17CP49. These are fitted to the N47, N57, B37, B47 and B57 Engines.

DDE 8

DDE8 ECUs are fitted to the 2016 onwards B series engines, such as the B37 (3 Cylinder), B47 (4 Cylinder) and B57 (6 Cylinder) variants. The DDE832C is a Bosch MD1CP002 (Piezo Injection) fitted to the B47 & B57, then the DDE802L is a Bosch MD1CS001 (Solenoid Injection) on the B47D20O0.
