This Car weighed 780kg wet which must be up there with the lightest of the FWD drag cars out there, the Tigra shape is also fairly slippery which makes a huge difference when close to 200mph...
The car is a Mk1 Vauxhall Tigra that was owned by our lead Fabricator Dan for many years and was developed into the car you see here today. The amount of blood sweat and tears to get it to where it is now was unbelievable but as with every project something usually stops them from being finished, the tuning being the case for this project and being TDi specialists, we don't have the time to take the car further than it is now.
The Car was built solely for drag racing with the hope to be the Quickest and Fastest FWD Drag Car in Europe with the hope of upsetting some of the guys in America too! The Plan was Sub 800kg and over 1000hp...
The main part of this whole build is the 20XE Engine (note there is no ‘C’ stamped on this engine, this is due to the block being the earliest possible pre Cat block due to the core shift found on later engines)
5 Blocks were chosen, all of them X-Rayed to find the one with the thickest walls, with the best chosen it was bored to accept UK Made Ductile Iron sleeves and ½” head studs. The ½” Girdle and Billet main caps line bored to accept the custom made Australian Crankshaft. JE Pistons custom made a set of 9:1 HD forged pistons and ZRP I-Beam rods were sourced along with the best quality bearings and ARP hardware. You will NOT get a stronger XE bottom end than this.
The head was built using a Brand New late spec casting and oversize valves from Paul Ivey with the full tried and tested Kent Cams valvetrain and custom grind cams to suit 9000rpm+. The ports are huge and many heads were cut to know where the gains could safely be made. It was a number of years ago when the head was flow tested but the numbers were well above the Honda’s of the time.
The rest of the engine components were taken from the top shelf with no expense spared and fabrication work, all done by Dan himself, is first class. If you look at the spec list I’m sure you will agree.
The Shell has had extensive modifications, 100's of hours removing unnecessary material and seam welding were done as well as an MSA spec roll cage. The front end is fully spec framed to allow easy access to all of the drivetrain.
Anything that could be Fibreglass was moulded including the full 1 piece front clamshell, Doors, Tailgate ect. The Roof is a single skin of Carbon Fibre and the windscreen 4mm Polycarbonate. The Paintwork is slightly faded but the still vibrant House of Kolor Neon Pink.
An SQS 4 speed 4Degree Dog engagement gear set is installed in the M32 housing along with a Quaife ATB Differential and Custom indestructible driveshafts. The SQS Sequential shifter finished things off. The gearing on this car will allow almost 190mph in top gear when allowing for tyre growth which will easily be enough when combined with a 1.3s 60ft to be the Quickest and fastest FWD car in Europe. The car was always built for 8s at over 180mph.
The car has custom made 15” Banded steels fitted with 26” x 10” MT ET Drag slicks. The rear are ‘Front Runner’ Lenso 15x3.5” fitted with 26 x 4.5” MH Drag tyres. As can be seen in the picture the dyno wheels are also included fitted with Nitto N555r Tyres
Too many chassis mods are there to be listed so hopefully the pictures show what is required. The Brakes are substantial Wilwood 4 pot drag spec but a Parachute is included. There are also Wheelie bars supplied.
The car is running a Motec M130 ECU which at the moment was configured by Dave Rowe at EPS Motorsport to start and idle. We have a Race Grade 8 EGT to CAN Interface and LSU 4.9 to CAN interfaces installed.
Previously the car ran on a Syvecs ECU and at 2 bar of boost produced almost 800hp before the project was shelved due to other commitments, one of which was an 780hp Evo 8 that the Syvecs ECU was utilised for.
Wiring Diagrams and user manuals for everything we have will be supplied as well as the base files ect.
I’m sure LOTS of stuff has been missed from the description and spec list but rest assured no corners were cut building this car and the minimum of work is required to make this race ready.
This car is perfectly aimed at the tuner looking to make a name for themselves quickly without the need to for the 4 or 5 years required to build a car to this specification, we estimate that well over £40000 has been spent on parts alone and the build cost for a car like this could easily creep up to £80,000+
We would have loved to sell the car in one hit to a fellow enthusiast but we have started to part it out.
