Spa and Nürburgring - AUDI A5 3.0 TDI QUATTRO PROJECT

We have already discussed the preparation and journey of the A5 and CitiGo, but figured it would be easier to separate the track time and videos for both cars, since we have so much footage!

Tino Jacobs took some great shots for Skylimit Photos on Sunday at Spa. We did 32 laps in the afternoon session, using just over 60L of fuel in 139.6 miles (224 km) of track driving, which equates to over 10 MPG (26L/100km) whilst on track. Not to be sniffed at when the petrol cars were in the low single figures!

The video of my fastest lap, a 3:02.92, is below. A little short of my target of a sub-3-minute lap, but with some stickier tyres and the 420bhp we had on the dyno before we left, it would have easily done it!

The A5 performed brilliantly for all the 32 laps on track. Despite seeing ambient temperatures of over 28C, we rarely saw the coolant temperature go over 100C, and that was only when following someone closely on the straights.

The car had a rest on Monday at the 'Ring, while we did some passenger laps around the Nordschleife to familiarise ourselves with the track.

Tuesday, we were straight into it, with sighting laps from 8am to 9am, with no overtaking allowed. This was great to get a feel for the track from the driving seat, without feeling pressure from behind and constantly checking our mirrors.

Misha from Apex Nurburg joined us for a combination of some tuition in the morning, and a profile of the cars.

While Misha was driving the A5, we had a nice little battle with a GT3 RS! I am sure the driver would have been hoping it was a highly tuned S5 behind him, not an oil burner!

Here is Misha's A5 Video, he has a quick look around the car, talks to Ryan about the mods and then jumps in for a lap!

Again the car performed brilliantly all day, never missing a beat. With ~360bhp and 265/35R18 Nankang NS-2R Tyres, Misha managed a 8:18 BTG. He believes with some sticker 295/30R18 Nankang AR-1s and a little more power, we could easily get into the 7s, which would be pretty cool. Excuse for another Road Trip?

The day was not over when the Nordschleife closed! As we mentioned in the previous blog, the GP Circuit was open, so we took the A5 and CitiGo for a play!
