OIL COOLERS & RADIATOR - AUDI A5 3.0 TDI QUATTRO PROJECT
Cooling is essential, especially on track!
In Part 15 of this series we fit our in house developed engine and gearbox oil coolers as well as a custom larger radiator in preparation for the Nurburgring!
Knowing from past track experience that cooling is vital we did not want to take any chances with this engine. The 3.0 TDIs run a 95c Thermostat from the factory, so we set about modding a brand new one to open closer to 80c, and while the front end was stripped down it made sense that all of the pulleys, tensioners and belts were renewed at the same time.
For most cars the extra cooling requirements are not essential but the preventative maintenance shown in the video are well worth the effort for higher mileage cars.
The custom radiator we produced was a direct bolt on. The oil coolers mean removal of the EGR Cooler to allow the pipes to pass through the tight gap, not helped by the slightly larger CP3 pump. The Transmission cooler is a very simple job with few parts needing to be replaced, should this modification be carried out alone!
